Challenge
Evolve and scale a product design system aligned with Enterprise Brand and accessibility standards—and increase adoption of the Digital Pulse Design System across the Digital organization by showcasing the value, efficiency, and time savings it provides to both design and engineering teams.
My Role
As a Senior Manager, I led the evolution and execution of the design system vision and strategy, ensuring alignment with the needs of our consumers. I set the quality standards for core components, and was responsible for evangelizing, promoting, and driving adoption of our design system through clear, compelling communication of its benefits. In addition, I personally designed and built the Pulse components used in the demo to ensure they met high standards of usability, accessibility, and reusability.
Solution
I defined and led the Digital Pulse vision and strategy, ensuring it addressed consumer needs and upheld high standards for usability, accessibility, and reusability. I established quality benchmarks for core components and drove adoption through compelling storytelling and clear communication of the system’s benefits.
I personally designed and built many of the core Pulse components, used in the latest CVS mobile app and web experiences across Digital, ensuring each component met rigorous standards for interaction states, accessibility features, and responsive behavior.
I unified design direction across 15+ solution teams by developing comprehensive documentation, scalable tools, and workflows—adopted by a 450+ person design organization. Along the way, I mentored over 150 experience designers, fostering a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and high-quality craft across a large, distributed team.
To effectively demonstrate the impact of Pulse, I created a screen-recorded demo of a patient scheduling user experience—first built using Pulse components, and then recreated without them. This side-by-side comparison highlighted the significant benefits of Pulse, including built-in accessibility standards, responsive behavior, and complete component states. Critically, the use of Pulse components enabled the Figma prototype to be completed three times faster than the version built without them—clearly showcasing the time savings and efficiency Pulse brings to the design process. The streamlined experience not only reduced design time but also helped ensure consistency and scalability across experiences.
The video was created in collaboration with engineering for the non-Pulse portion of the demo and featured a voice-over in partnership with executive leadership. We presented the final product to the EVP of CVS Health, and it is now leveraged as a core promotional asset to reinforce the value of Pulse across the organization.
